Political reactions after “There is Such a People” party`s decision to return mandate to form a cabinet

"There is Such a People" will return the exploratory mandate to form a government as soon as the President hands it over to them, Slavi Trifonov announced on Facebook on April 26. How did the other political parties react to this?

The Bulgarian Socialist Party executive bureau came up with the position that with the return of the mandate Slavi Trifonov failed the opportunity to dismantle the Borissov model.

The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) has so far refrained from comment. MPs from "Democratic Bulgaria" do not think that the President should give them the third mandate, but they will come out with a common position tomorrow. From "Rise up! Thugs out!" reaffirmed their position that they would only support a cabinet of change.

BSP believes that the party "There is Such a People" throws the state into chaos and ensures the return of GERB. They are convinced that the return of the mandate will block the budget update and the adoption of the Recovery and Sustainability Plan. And the only goal, according to them, is: changes in the Electoral Code to control the Central Election Commission and increase the number of polling stations abroad, which would be helpful to MRF. BSP concludes by saying that the change turned out to be a replacement and that the behind-the-scenes politics was reborn in a new image.

The parliamentary group of "Democratic Bulgaria" will meet tomorrow and then will come out with a position. MP Mitko Kunchev assured that so far they have not had talks with Slavi Trifonov's party “There is Such a People”.

"In Parliament, we arre sitting next to them. We talk constantly with the people, but there were no talks at the level of a parliamentary group. First, there is no reason for the President to give us a mandate as we are the fourth political force with 21 MPs. Secondly, there is no reason for us to accept such a mandate. The MPs are against dissolving the National Assembly," Mitko Kunchev explained.

The chairwoman of the parliamentary group of "Rise up! Thugs out!", Maya Manolova, expects to hear the motives of "There is Such a People" and Slavi Trifonov for the return of the mandate.

"Yes, we have stated during the election campaign that we would support a cabinet of change, which will be formed at the suggestion of the parties of the previous non-parliamentary opposition. Whether we would take a third mandate – it is the President’s decision who to hand it over to. "It is not logical to hand it over to the smallest parliamentary group. Yes, we are active, we are hardworking, we can be responsible, but I do not think it is normal for the big ones to hide behind the back of the smallest," Manolova said.
